Faith Church Denton United Methodist Church

A Place to Belong, A Place to Worship, A Place to Grow in Faith

About Us

What We Believe!

We believe that the church is the body of Christ, an extension of Christ’s life and ministry in the world today.

We believe that the mission of the church is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.

We believe that the church is the communion of saints, a community made up of all past, present, and future disciples of Christ.

We believe that the church is called to worship God and to support those who participate in its life as they grow in faith.

Our Worship Services!

Our worship is traditional in style with a relaxed atmosphere. Music is a mix of standard hymns and some newer songs.
A host is available before and after service to provide you more information and answer your questions.
After worship, we gather in the fellowship hall for refreshments and fellowship. Have some coffee, snacks and meet a new friend.

Our Mission Statement!

We at Denton Faith affirm the faith shared by all Christians, with particular emphasis on God’s grace and on Christian living, putting faith and love into action. Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world by proclaiming the good news of God’s grace and by exemplifying Jesus’ command to love God and neighbor, thus seeking the fulfillment of God’s reign and realm in the world. We stand on the words of Jesus Christ as recorded in Matthew 28:19-20 which says “Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything that I’ve commanded you” and Matthew 22: 37 and 39 — You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your being, and with all your mind …. You must love your neighbor as you love yourself.

Our History!

The Denton Church very interestingly arose in the homes of its people. With no public meeting place, a small group of persons, not all Methodist, began to come together for religious worship. The earliest meetings were held in 1835 at the Clark and Hannah Homer’s log cabin home which was located near Denton on land that later became a runway for Willow Run Airport. Mr. Horner built another room on his house to accommodate the attendants at Horner Mission as it was called. The Horner Mission became one of the units of the Huron Mission, Huron being the name of the township until it was given its present name of Van Buren on April 6, 1835. The one conducting the services would stand in the center of the room with people around him, and it was said that in his earnestness one of the speakers jumped on a chair to preach his sermon.

A year later a Sunday School was formed and the Church moved to a small schoolhouse that was built on land that the church did not have title to, and the land was sold and the building was torn down. A log schoolhouse was built to accommodate the Sunday School. In 1869 the First M.E. Church of Denton was dedicated on the grounds the church purchased for $100.00 from Samuel Y. Denton. The church seated 250 persons and cost $3000.00. In 1893 the church built a parsonage on two lots purchased from Benjamin F. Lewis. In 1928 an addition of a dining room and kitchen was added to the church building.

In 1974, ground was broken for a new church at the corner of Michigan Avenue and Denton Road. The Church which was known as Horner Mission is now known as Faith United Methodist Church. At the Centennial celebration of the city of Belleville, Faith United Methodist Church was recognized for its long history in the township and the continuing role the church plays in the life of the community.
